Sledmere House

Sledmere House is a ‘Grade I’ listed Georgian country house, set within 960 acres of parkland, situated on the outskirts of the tiny village of Sledmere, seven miles northwest of the market town of Driffield in the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Lancelot Capability Brown produced a plan for remodelling the estate at Sledmere in 1778.

The present house was designed by Samuel Wyatt and Sir Christopher Sykes, 2nd baronet and begun in 1751, extended in the 1790s, and rebuilt after a fire in 1911. It was once the home of Colonel Sir Mark Sykes, 6th Baronet the noted English traveller and diplomatic advisor, and is now the home of Sir Tatton Sykes, 8th Baronet.

The house contains Chippendale, Sheraton and French furnishings and many fine pictures.

Sledmere Monument is a 120 feet (37 m) stone monument along the B1252 road on Garton Hill, built in memory of Sir Tatton Sykes, 4th Baronet, by his friends and neighbours in 1865.
