Coire Fhionn Lochan
One of the first walks I did on Arran with my parents when I was about seven years of age was to Coire Fhionn Lochan, situated on the northwestern side of the island between the small hamlets of Cataclol and Thundergay.
The walk starts in Thundergay where a wooden signpost shows the way and initially takes you past several cottages and over a large ladder stile over a deer fence. The trail runs alongside a small burn with several small waterfalls. I remember on one of my visits seeing several small Adders basking in the sunshine on the warm boulders on the side of the track and the white gravel track leading to the tarn. It is a pleasant gentle uphill ramble which takes about an hour from the car and an hour for the return total milage about three and a half miles.
